Impact

Ambitious for people and planet

At Sky, we're a major producer of ambitious, original film and TV, made here in the UK and Europe. We're also a tech business, building platforms, hardware and apps to transform your entertainment experience, for the better. Through our work, we support the creative industries and create highly skilled jobs.

We're also determined to make a positive impact on the world. So across Sky, we support two important causes. Through Sky Up, we help people fulfil their potential by giving them access to the internet and opportunities in our industry. And through Sky Zero, we're slashing our carbon emissions and inspiring others to do the same. Find out more about how we use our ways of working and our influence to further these two important causes below.

Latest highlights

Skills

Sky Up is our social impact programme, designed to help people fulfil their potential. Through Sky Up, we make a difference in three important ways. We give people access to the internet. We work with schools to raise young people’s aspirations. And we give people from all walks of life the chance to build rewarding careers in media and tech. By 2025, we aim to have supported 250,000 people, through Sky Up.

Sky Up is part of Comcast’s $1 billion commitment to help close the digital divide and create opportunities for the next generation.

Environment

Sky Zero is our environmental impact programme, our company-wide effort to contribute to a low carbon economy and inspire positive change for the planet. It’s about creating change, fast, from designing tech with energy efficiency and recyclability in mind, to working with our partners and suppliers to promote system-wide change to protect people and planet. Through our TV, we’re raising awareness of the climate crisis and mobilising others to take action.

Culture

We make a crucial creative and economic contribution to the creative industries in the UK and Europe. Every year, we air thousands of hours of original programming, including award-winning shows, made here in the UK.

Sky Studios Elstree, our state-of-the-art film and TV studio near London, will attract around £3 billion in production investment to the UK in its first five years alone. We also broadcast some of our channels, free-to-air, so everyone can enjoy them, free of charge. All this has a big impact on our shared culture.

Inclusion

We believe in a more inclusive society. That shapes the way we create film and TV, design products and services, select our partners and recruit people to join our team. We’re creating a workplace culture where our people can be themselves and succeed.

Volunteering

Thousands of Sky volunteers give their time and energy to support good causes in our local communities, every year. Our volunteers work with over 40 charity partners to help improve people’s lives and to protect the planet. Sky Cares is part of Comcast Cares Day, which inspires more than 100,000 volunteers across the world to make a difference.

Launched in 2019, our Sky Cares project has had a huge take-up within our team. Every day, Sky people in call centres are reaching out to the elderly and isolated, as part of our volunteering befriending service. Others are mentoring kids, supporting them to think big and enjoy new experiences. And we’re doing beach and river cleans, to create a better environment for everyone.
